Saturday MAVER MATCH THIS 16th July 2011. New, Extension, House & Jennys pools. No F/Man: 58

Jamie Hughes qualified for the Maver Match this final in style with a convincing win from peg one on the New pool. He had to beat off some stiff competition in the form of Paul Newell, Steve Mayo and Jason Neath who all registered weights over the 150lb mark.

Out of 63 tickets sold, 58 anglers braved the rain to fish for the chance to win a place in the final. The rain came down hard and showed no sign of stopping. For the last couple of hours of the match the weather picked up with an occasional shower.

The pools used on the day were House, New, Extension and Jennys. The New pool continued to fish it’s head off with the top four weights coming from it.

Jamie drew peg one on the new and fancied it from the start.  He fished casters and maggot with the caster shallow and the maggot down the edge for all f1 carp. Second place went to venue regular Paul Newell. Paul drew peg 38 on the New and he fished bread and corn down the edges and over to the island. His bag consisted of mainly f1 carp with a few roach and skimmers. Third place was tightly contested between Steve Mayo and Jason Neath. Steve just came out on top with 156-6 from New 30 while Jason weighed in 152-9 from New 44 fishing chopped worm and caster.
