Frugal feeding key to Bait Tech Festival Win. Ringer Baits backed ace James Hawkins had five days to remember last week, after romping to victory in the prestigious Bait Tech Festival at White Acres. With cool temperatures and torrential rain, the fishing wasn’t up to its usual spring standards – with frugal feeding holding the key to big weights for many anglers. James started his week on Trewaters, and though he enjoyed a nice days fishing, and caught 34lb on a feeder, he was beaten by two anglers in his section – a result which he ended up dropping.

Following complaints from anglers angered by the re-emergence of a website offering rod licence renewals which charges an additional £11 for ‘processing services’ the Angling Trust is warning anglers not to pay a penny more than they need and is encouraging everyone to use the completely free service provided by the Environment Agency and the Post Office. The Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers has selected Wing Commander Andy Johnstone OBE to be their interim Senior Team Manager for the forthcoming international season. Andy has been a member of the Welsh squad for 10 years and competed in 9 European Championships and 4 World Championships. A member of the Royal Air Force team, he has managed the RAF to numerous medals including NFA Division One National Silver; 5 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Bronze, during the 8 years the RAF competed in the European Military Championships; and numerous NATO Championship medals.

The box office has opened and the countdown begun for this year’s CLA Game Fair – the world’s largest countryside event – at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire from Friday, 19 July to Sunday, 21 July. The CLA Game Fair’s organisers are predicting a huge turnout for this year’s event which celebrates the countryside and showcases the importance of field sports and country activities to the rural economy. Director Andrew Crawford said: “The CLA Game Fair is the jewel in the crown of the outdoor show calendar and is recognised nationally and internationally as the biggest countryside event of its kind, promoting all aspects of a living and working countryside. “Having missed a year, we are expecting a surge of interest and a ‘bounce-back’ effect with 1,000-plus exhibitors and a very large number of visitors.
Top matchman Gary Miller has just signed an individual deal with Maver.
Gary, one of the original Essex County team members, has competed at the very top level for a long time and is well known as the man at the front when it comes to big team events.
Currently a member of the talented Maver Image squad under Steve Clark’s management, Gary has consistently impressed many in the sport at top level and is regarded within the match fishing fraternity to be a very talented angler indeed.
Gary has been fishing since age 5 and began competing as a junior with Kings Arms & Cheshunt aged 10.
The Biggest event in Ireland is BACK!
The Lakelands & Inland Waterways World Pairs Angling Championship is to take place the 9th to 13th September 2013. Kevin Locke Match Organiser stated 'I am delighted that Lakelands & Inland Waterways have agreed to sponsor the World Pairs in 2013'.
The event, which was won by Irish duo Phillip Jackson and Cathal Hughes, was a massive success in its first year with anglers keen to see it back on the calendar for 2013!
The match saw the first place pairing walk away with a stunning £30,000 cheque, one of the richest prizes in angling, along with generous tackle prizes from Daiwa.
Details have not been finalized yet and are due for release on the 8th of April.
