The Biggest event in Ireland is BACK!
The Lakelands & Inland Waterways World Pairs Angling Championship is to take place the 9th to 13th September 2013. Kevin Locke Match Organiser stated 'I am delighted that Lakelands & Inland Waterways have agreed to sponsor the World Pairs in 2013'.
The event, which was won by Irish duo Phillip Jackson and Cathal Hughes, was a massive success in its first year with anglers keen to see it back on the calendar for 2013!
The match saw the first place pairing walk away with a stunning £30,000 cheque, one of the richest prizes in angling, along with generous tackle prizes from Daiwa.
Details have not been finalized yet and are due for release on the 8th of April.
New Easter Festival Announced!
An exciting new veterans festival is set to take place at Weston Pools Fishery in Shropshire. With sponsorship from tackle giant Tri Cast, the event will take place on Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd of March. Entry costs just £50, which includes festival entry and peg fees. There is an optional superpool of £10 on the day, with the overall result decided on section points.
Just one week left for Garbolino Club Angler Of the Year Entries!Due to popular demand, an extension has been placed on the Garbolino Club Angler Of The Year, meaning anglers now have another seven days to get their entry forms in!Once again Garbolino has pledged its unanimous support for the biggest event in the Match Fishing club calendar – the prestigious Club Angler of the Year!This is every club angler’s opportunity to step up to the plate and prove themselves as the country’s number-one club angler, as others have done in previous years. There’s over £10,000 worth of top tackle prizes and some lucrative cash prizes to be won too! (All cash prizes subject to entry. ) As ever there’s a unique glass trophy for the winner, who will also receive an invitation to fish the 2014 Drennan Knockout Cup competition, giving them the chance to lift that huge title too!The qualifiers will run in the same format as previous years, with three regional fish-offs. The first will be at Tunnel Barn Farm on Friday, April 19th, the second at Woodland Lakes Thirsk on Friday, May 3rd and the third at Colemans Cottage on Friday, May 17th.

Cast Northwest Unveils UK’s First Indoor Fishery!The UK’s first indoor fishery has been opened by Lancashire based angling charity, Cast Northwest. The venue, which is housed inside a giant greenhouse, provides the charity with the facilities that it needs to teach children about the art of angling in all weathers. The venue was the brainchild of project co ordinator, Neil Farnworth, who has been using his scheme to help children who have dropped out of full time education for the past seven years. The indoor lake is the latest part of the project, and allows Neil and his term to continue their good work, even in inclement weather conditions.

Top name sponsors for new winter event. An exciting new team fishing competition has been announced, that will start in the winter of 2013. The brainchild of Sam Wildsmith, and Angling News Week Editor, Tom Scholey, the league will see 12 teams of six compete over a four match series. Sam explained: “For a few years now, I have felt that there is room for a new team fishing competition through the winter months – and after talking with Tom we decided to get together and make it happen.
Kerry and Dicks to represent England!Mark Downes and Mark Addy, Joint Drennan Team England Managers, have announced their England squad to compete in this year’s 19th Coarse Angling European Championship in Novisad, Serbia on the Danube canal from 24th – 30th June. Following last year’s European silver medal win in Spain, Mark Downes and Mark Addy have decided to give some ‘Young Blood’ a chance to establish themselves. Stepping down this year for the European Championship are Steve Gardener and Steve Hemmingray. They are replaced by Barnsley’s Lee Kerry, who has already represented his country at Youth level and Bristol’s Callum Dicks, a regular in the successful Dorking squad, and a former Youth World Champion.
Thorne glory for Wright and Gianoncelli!Browning Hot Rods ace Rob Wright, and England Youth International Frankie Gianoncelli have won the Thorne Pairs League, after a close final round. The league, contested by 72 anglers on Stainforth and Keadby Canal is among the most prestigious in the country, with five times World Champion Alan Scotthorne, and current World Champion Sean Ashby among the competitors. Frankie explained: “Rob and I are absolutely made up to have won a league as prestigious as this – I would definitely describe it as my biggest angling achievement, and proudest moment. As the final league table shows, the competition was extremely closely contested by some of the country’s best bloodworm and joker anglers.

It doesn't matter if it's football, cricket or tiddlywinks, everyone has an opinion when it comes to picking a team to represent your nation. After all, slagging people off and praising others is almost a National obsession! Picking a World Championship squad of anglers that are fit to represent England is no different. Obviously, the manager has the last say and probably knows a whole lot more than you or I but, for what it's worth, here are my seven-man squads for both the Float and Feeder teams.
