Roach go on the feed at Evesham The weights on the Evesham Festival Qualifying matches have soared this week, after bloodworm and joker were allowed for the first time this season. Sensas ace Darran Bickerton was best, with a 10-13-0 net from Peg 18. Darran fished bloodworm at 13 metres over a bed of soil, joker and groundbait, taking fish to 10 ounces. It was a similar story for runner-up, Steve Townsend, who also caught a net of roach on bloodworm.

Ministers urged to ban domestic use of hazardous chemical. Following the identification of the pesticide chlorpyrifos as the cause of last month's pollution of a 15km section of the upper Kennet between Marlborough and Hungerford, the Angling Trust has written to Environment minister Richard Benyon calling for the chemical to be withdrawn from domestic use. It has been estimated that as little as half a cupful poured down a local drain and entering the river via the Marlborough Sewage treatment works resulted in the almost complete wipe-out of macro invertebrates in the affected stretch. Chlorpyrifos is regularly used on lawns and golf courses and to tackle insects on crops and some soft fruits.

Match Fishing previews MAP's new flagship pole. Top match brand MAP is set to release a new flagship pole – the TKS 901 – and already it has set tongues wagging in the tackle industry. Wakelin smashes UK Championship record!Preston Innovations ace Adam Wakelin has set a new UK Championship record, with a massive 279lb 6oz net from Bait-Tech Viaduct Fishery in Somerset. Adam took the huge net from corner Peg 119 on Campbell Pool, fishing 8mm pellets shallow down the edge at 16 metres. On hearing the news that he had set a new record, Adam was absolutely delighted. He told us: "I have been fishing the UK Championship for 10 years now and have always wanted to win a round but never quite managed it.

Daiwa & Guru backed ace in Maver final. Andy Bennett has won a place in the Maver Match This Final, after winning the Garbolino Lindholme Lakes qualifier, with a weight of 138lb 13oz. The result came on the back of a successful week for Andy - who also won last weeks festival at Lindholme!Having only just missed out on a place in the final from last weekend’s qualifier at Partridge Lakes by a little over 4lbs, Andy was determined not to be beaten again. Fishing meat over ground bait towards the far bank Andy finished the day with 138-13-00 from peg 26 on OasisOne hundred anglers attended this year's Mega 'Match This' qualifier at Lindholme Lakes - the best attendance to date across all Mega 'Match This' qualifiers at the popular Doncaster venue.

Stainforth & Keadby Canal to host exciting new contest. A new teams-of-three winter league is set to run on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal at Thorne. The venue – which has a reputation as being one of the most prolific winter fisheries in the country has been famous for hosting the sell-out individual and pairs league in years gone by. In recent years, numbers have begun to dwindle though – and when the previous organiser announced that he wasn’t interested in running the leagues any more, Lee Kerry and Tom Scholey stepped up to the mark.

World Champs glory sees England youth top world rankings. England’s youth teams are quite literally on top of the world as they travel back from France, as this weekend’s fantastic World Championship performance has seen them rise to the top of the World rankings. The table – which is worked out on medal count over a five-year period, is used to determine which teams are regarded as the best in the world – and we now top the chart at both junior and senior levels. England’s international events co-ordinator, Dick Clegg, was the first to congratulate the teams and their management.

England Juniors lead World Youth Championship. The England under-18 team have taken a commanding position on the first day of the Junior World Championship, taking three section wins and a second. As it stands, they are nine points ahead of second-placed France, with one day of the competition still to go. Section winners include Sam Hughes, Bradley Gibbons and Joe Kent, with Matt Barnett second in his section – finishing just a few grams short of victory.

Glory for England in World Youth Championship. England's juniors have won the World Championship in France, with a record 10-point score. They have also taken the top four individual placings – a feat which isn't believed to ever have been achieved before. Manager Steve Sanders was ecstatic with the results.

Sanders optimistic of England Youth’s chances. The Junior and Intermediate World Championship takes place tomorrow, on the River Vilaines in France. England has a team entered into both events, thanks to generous backing from sponsors Drennan and Sensas. Dorking skipper Steve Sanders is manager of the junior team and is optimistic of the squads' chances, explaining: “The venue is absolutely fantastic, and we have enjoyed a great week's practice, with the anglers getting better every day.

Top scientist urges fisheries to 'have a plan. ' One of the UK's foremost authorities on fish and fishery management, Dr Bruno Broughton, has warned of the extreme danger that the current hot, stormy weather is posing to the nation's fisheries. With several high-profile fisheries having closed over recent days, it is thought that the current conditions have already started to take casualties. England ace, Des Shipp explains the importance of staying cool. “To get the most from any session, you have to be able to concentrate 100% on your fishing, and in order to do this you need to need to be cool, calm and collected” Drennan Team England guru, Des Shipp explained. “A lot of anglers neglect the impact that the hot conditions, such as those that we are experiencing at the minute can have on the human body – and as a result they are losing their focus, and this is costing them fish. Alarming figures show 40% drop in young anglers. Environment Agency figures show a 40% drop in junior rod licence sales between 2009 and 2013, a report on the BBC website claims. In 2009, 77,138 junior rod licences were sold, while in 2013 the figure fell to 43,924. In the short film, Geoff Brighty from the Environment Agency explains that the drop in anglers has cost the agency over £1,000,000 - seriously effecting the work that they have been able to do.
