Steve Openshaw and Krysztof Frackowiak have become the last two people to qualify for the Maver Match This Final, after winning their respective qualifiers this weekend. The two matches, fished at Tunnel Barn Farm and Barston Lakes. A good turn-out saw ninety seven anglers attend the 2013 Maver Mega 'Match This' qualifier at the popular Tunnel Barn Farm.

Barnsley Blacks have won the first ever Angling Trust Commercial
National. The event, which was contested by 18 teams of ten was fished
across Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, Hayfield Lakes and Daiwa Hallcroft
Fishery. Barnsley won the event by over 100 kilos – and also
boasted the individual winner in the shape of James Dent, who weighed 98
kilos from the end peg on Moat Pool at Daiwa Hallcroft fishery. Barnsley’s
captain, Glen Lawrence was delighted when he found out that his team
had won: “I haven’t fished myself today, but it’s been awesome
performance from the lads.
Angling Trust to publish competitions expenditure. The Angling Trust has today announced that it will publish a full breakdown of its income and expenditure for all the matches that it runs. The announcement comes on the back of an ‘Agent X’ article in Match Fishing magazine, and a thread on the Angling Answers forum, which has seen numerous anglers question where the ‘administration’ money that taken out of the pot actually goes. being one of the UK's best allround anglers, was previously backed by

BBC’s One Show highlights cormorant issue. The
prime time BBC current affairs show, ‘The One Show’ has highlighted one
of angling’s biggest problems – the fish eating cormorants that are
ravaging our inland fish stocks. Reporter, Miranda Krestovnikoff
describes the birds as "formidable predators of fish" and wintesses
first hand how devastating an impact cormorants are having. The hit show, presented by Matt Baker and Alex Jones, interviews Angling Trust Chief Executive, Mark Lloyd about the problem.
Team fishing comeback for Dorking ace. Daiwa,
Bag Em Matchbaits and Guru backed ace Pemb Wrighting has rejoined the
mighty Daiwa Dorking team, after a six year break from team fishing. Pemb
used to compete with Dorking, who are regarded as being one of the best
teams in the country, but quit to concentrate on individual fishing.
During his break, he has achieved many notable results including a Maver
Classic win, and several framing places on White Acres Festivals.
Middy ace makes the Maver Match This Final. Simon Skelton has won the latest Maver Match This qualifier at Maver Larford Lakes. Simon drew end peg 44 on Arena Lake, and alternated between short pole and the method feeder, before switching to the margins late on to take carp to 18lbs. Simon's final weigh pulled the scales round to a match-winning 135-12-00.
Disappointment for England on tough venue. England's
veteran and disabled teams have returned from their respective World
Championships in Bosnia without a medal. The veterans World Championship
was won by Italy, and the Czech Republic lifted the winners trophy in
the disabled category. England's best result came from Daiwa
Dorking skipper, Steve Sanders, who finished in fourth place individually
in the veterans category, and won the match individually on the first day.
Sky Sports to cover Maver Match This FinalSky Sports have announced a special one hour angling show, covering the £50,000 Maver Match This finals in August. The
programme will be presented by Rob Hughes, who also hosts the British
Carp Angling Championship and UK Championship events and appears as a
reporter at Fish 'O' Mania for Sky. Rob said “It’s great to see that Sky
are supporting angling as they have for a number of years. These events
showcase our sport at the highest level and what better place to see
them than Sky Sports”Event organiser Phil Briscoe added “We’ve
worked hard with the Match This concept which has become a major event
in the angling calendar and we’re really pleased to see that Sky are

Lucky angler catches £10,000 cash at CLA Game Fair!Jersey-based
accountant Andrew Dann was the lucky recipient of £10,000 cash after he
won Fish for a Fortune at this year’s CLA Game Fair at Ragley Hall in
Warwickshire. Entrants had just 20 minutes to catch a fish in
the lake to then be eligible to be entered into the cash prize draw. At
4pm on the Sunday of the Show, Andrew’s name was plucked out of the hat
at the Fish for a Fortune pontoon. The married father of two
commented: “I was delighted to receive the news of my win! I enjoy all
types of fishing, and often go course fishing.
Awesome Andy in Riverfest Final. No one
can deny that Preston ace Andy Power is having a phenomenal season on
the commercial match scene - qualifying for the Fish 'O'Mania Final,
Maver Match This Final, and leading the prestigious UK Angling
Championship. In a rare summer break from commercial fishing,
Andy entered the RiverFest qualifier on his local Bristol Avon at the
weekend - and continued his awesome run of form by winning the 58 peg
match!The Thatchers rod explained: "Contrary to what some people
think, I actually prefer natural venue fishing to commercials, and
between October and March river and canal fishing is pretty much all I
do. It is only the size of matches in my area, and my desire to progress
as an angler, that makes me fish commercials.
New start for Emneth store. A new tackle
shop called, Baggin Up Tackle has opened in the Cambridgeshire town of
Emneth. Under the ownership of well known match angler, Stewart Milne
the store is already proving popular. The shop has opened on the premises of
the old Emneth Angling, and caters for all disciplines of fishing.
Leicester's Pete tops the Division Two National. To catch 100lb from a natural venue in England is an achievement; to win a National Championship with over 50 kilos of bream is nothing short of incredible – but this is exactly what Pete Marlow achieved in Saturday's Division Two National on the Great Ouse. In the team stakes, it was Devizes Angling Association that topped a strong field, with a 243-point score – beating Garbolino Blackhorse and Maver Bait Tech by just a single point. The team, made up of G Williamson, N Baker, K Rowles, A McTiffin, J Carty, N Franks, A Carter, R Guy, D Clapton and R Kepner averaged 24 points out of a possible 33.
Maver rod tops five day festival. Ian Giddins has won the 2013 Maver Larford Lakes Festival, with an eight-point score. Sixty-four anglers attended this year's annual five-day summer festival hosted as Maver's Larford Lakes complex. Conditions for this year's event were, for the most part, settled with the exception of the opening day, which saw heavy rain.
Star-studded race night this Friday. A race night to raise money for the England Ladies Team is set to take place this Friday. Hosted by Former Ladies World Champion, Emma Pickering, the event is taking place at Monckton Social Club in Pinfold Lane, Penkridge. Star anglers, including Tommy Pickering, Ed Warren, Grant Albutt and Mick Vials have already confirmed their attendance, making it a great opportunity to rub shoulders with the stars, and hopefully win a few quid along the way.
