Jan Porter to make match fishing comeback. Legendary angler Jan Porter is to make a return to match fishing after hearing about the new Riverfest contest run by former Match Fishing editor Dave Harrell. Jan, who built up a fearsome match fishing reputation as ‘The Man In Red’ in the 1980s before turning to specimen fishing, explained: “When I quit match fishing, I said that I would never take part in the sport again. For so many years I had been so 'full-on' with the sport; I knew that the only way I could break away from it was to be 'full-off'.

Jamie Hughes wins Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Partridge Lakes Maver and Bag 'Em Matchbaits-backed ace Jamie Hughes has won the Fish 'O' Mania qualifier at Partridge Lakes. Eleven lakes were in use at the popular Cheshire complex, including the new Covey 5 Lake, and the fishery staff were expecting good weights to be recorded as a result of a change in the weather. They weren't disappointed, as the top six anglers all recorded over 100lb. Drawing fancied Peg 2 on Pine Pool was regular Match Fishing contributor Jamie Hughes, an angling coach from Wirral.

Tri-Cast sponsors Shropshire event. Shropshire-based commercial fishery Weston Pools has announced the details of this year's Summer Doubles Competition. The match will be held on Friday, June 28th and is open to anyone. Previous years have attracted more than 50 anglers and the event always proves to be a fantastic addition to the venue's calendar.

Fishing App in tackle prize giveaway. Starting today, all members of the Fishing UK app will be rewarded for their efforts with the chance to win some great tackle prizes. Big-money pairs match to run at Larford. Maver’s Andy Kinder has announced that he is once again running a pairs competition at the Larford Lakes complex in Worcestershire. Taking place on August 24th, the one-off match has always proved popular with anglers, taking place the day before the British Pole Championship Final. Andy explained: “The pairs is a nice friendly event, that gives a lot of people the chance to win a lot of money! Pairs will be allowed to nominate which of their anglers fishes each lake, with one person fishing either Match or Arena pool, and the other fishing Specimen Lake.

Pickering fishes his way to the UK’s two biggest finals. “I woke up this morning thinking I had just had the most amazing dream about qualifying for the Fish 'O' Mania Final and the Maver Match This Final in the last five days… It took me a good few minutes to convince myself that it had actually happened. ”These were the words of angling legend and Preston Innovations and Sonubaits-backed ace Tom Pickering, who in five days has secured himself a place in this year's Maver Match This and Fish 'O' Mania finals. The former World Champion took the win in the Match This qualifier at The Oaks Fishery at Sessay.

New faces in World Champs line-up. Manager Dave Brooks has announced his team for the 20th Ladies Coarse Angling World Championship, which will take place this year on the River Sava, near the town of Radece in Slovenia, on August 23rd and 24th. This venue is not unknown to English anglers as there have been several other championships fished there in recent years. The England ladies' team are currently number two in the FIPSed world rankings, second only to Italy.

Hemsworth rod in Fish 'O' Mania FinalFormer England Youth International, Dale Shepherd has won the debut Fish 'O' Mania qualifier at Aston Ponds in Sheffield. The 23-year-old ace managed to net 67lb of ide, fishing up in the water with casters. Drawn on Peg 6 on the venue's Split Pond, Dale netted over 150 fish for his weight - which put him 5lb clear of second place. Runner up on the day was local rod Leon Hardwick, who caught a 62lb 12oz net of ide from Lantra Pool.

Maver and Marukyu-backed rod grabs place in £50K Final Andy Kinder has secured a place in the prestigious Maver Match This Final, after winning the qualifier at The Glebe Fishery in Leicestershire. Fishery owner, Roy Marlow explained: "After three hours fishing, there were dozens of anglers in the running, with most predicting that 150lb could take the title. "The final hour was going to be critical and it was a very close call for the top three. "When it came to the weigh in, the fishing had been even better than many people expected, with 20 anglers all weighing in over 100lb – and several more having over 90lb.

Preston ace secures place in Match This Final. Preston Innovations England feeder team captain Tommy Pickering has won a place in the £50,000 Maver Match This Final, after winning the qualifier at The Oaks Lakes in North Yorkshire. Tommy drew Peg 25 on Beech Pool, and left his feeder rod in his bag – opting to fish pole and pellet shallow at just seven metres. Offering a banded 4mm pellet over 4mm feed pellets, Tommy ended the match with a winning 125-06-00 to finish a clear 20lb ahead of the rest of the field.

Second series of 'Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr Crabtree' announced. A second series of the popular angling TV show, 'Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr Crabtree' has been scheduled – and the organisers are on the look out for young anglers to get involved. A press release from the producers explained: "‘Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree – The Quest’ will bring viewers back into the world of Crabtree, but this time we’ll be setting ourselves some new and greater challenges.

New additive accounts for massive countrywide catches. A new bait additive that many anglers have described as the smelliest substance that they have ever come across has been accounting for some massive catches up and down the country. The additive, that the creators have simply named ‘Stinky Stuff’ is the result of over two years of scientific development. Creator, David Bailey explained: "The name Stinky Stuff came from people asking: "What's that stinky stuff?" when we were trialling it.
