Record Breaker

Wakelin smashes UK Championship record!
Preston Innovations ace Adam Wakelin has set a new UK Championship record, with a massive 279lb 6oz net from Bait-Tech Viaduct Fishery in Somerset.

Adam took the huge net from corner Peg 119 on Campbell Pool, fishing 8mm pellets shallow down the edge at 16 metres.

On hearing the news that he had set a new record, Adam was absolutely delighted. He told us: "I have been fishing the UK Championship for 10 years now and have always wanted to win a round but never quite managed it. To win the round and set a new record really is a dream come true.

"I had a very simple match, fishing shallow with hard pellets into the corner, just inches deep. I managed a total of 56 carp by the end of the five-hour match. It really was a very special day. I do feel a bit sorry for runner-up Andy Power, though – to miss out on the win by just 1oz is very disappointing. Still, he fished a great match, and every dog has its day."

Match organiser Nigel Harrhy was delighted with how the day had gone. He said: "Ten anglers weighed over 200lb, and there were a total of 28 people with more than 100lb of fish. On the overall match, 67 anglers weighed in 6,753lb of fish, which equates to more than 100lb per man. In anybody's book, they are awesome statistics!"
