Cast Northwest Unveils UK’s First Indoor Fishery! The UK’s first indoor fishery has been opened by Lancashire based angling charity, Cast Northwest. The venue, which is housed inside a giant greenhouse, provides the charity with the facilities that it needs to teach children about the art of angling in all weathers. The venue was the brainchild of project co ordinator, Neil Farnworth, who has been using his scheme to help children who have dropped out of full time education for the past seven years. The indoor lake is the latest part of the project, and allows Neil and his term to continue their good work, even in inclement weather conditions.
Exciting start to 2013
The New Year has got off to an eventful start, with the unseasonally warm weather leading to some remarkable nets of fish. Commercial fisheries have been throwing up some enormous weights, with some remarkable catches also being taken by specimen hunters. There have also been some freak events in the animal world, including a marine seal swimming over 70 miles down a river, and into an inland lake. Then there is the ‘leaping mullet’ video, that is trending on You Tube and has already attracted almost £1.
England Feeder Team embark on South African adventure!England's feeder team are preparing to leave for South Africa, as practice for the third World Feeder Championship gets underway. This Saturday the team - which is made up of Steve Ringer, Phil Ringer, Grant Albutt, Tommy Pickering, Mick Vials, Adam Wakelin and coach Glenn Lawrence fly to Johannesburg, before making the four hour journey by road to the site of this years event, the mighty Bloemhoff Dam. Team stalwart Steve Ringer explained: "We are all really looking forward to getting on the bank and having a go at the event, though truth be told we aren't too sure what to expect! In terms of tackle, we have all had to really scale everything down, as obviously transporting everything that we have over there is a very expensive exercise. Our sponsors, Preston Innovations have generously sent a container over there containing boxes, carryalls and ready rod holdalls, but it still leaves us having to take rods, reels hooklengths and feeders as part of our luggage consignment on the plane.
Duo win over £20,000 in prize money. Cathal Hughes and Phillip Jackson have won the World Pairs Angling Championship for the second year running, after a close final-day battle. The Daiwa and MatchCraft-backed duo recorded a combined total weight of 185. 280kg, putting them over 17kg clear of runners-up Steve and Phil Ringer.

National Fishing Month attracts record numbers into angling. This
year’s National Fishing Month (NFM) has shattered its 15,000 target,
setting new records for the number of people who were introduced to the
sport via more than 300 special events throughout the country. When the
final figures are tallied, it is likely that participant numbers will
be closer to 16,000, much to the delight of the NFM organisers. It
began with a flying start back in mid-July when more than 1,000 people were
coached in coarse and game fishing by the Professional Anglers
Association (PAA) and the Game Angling Instructors’ Association (GAIA)
at the CLA Game Fair at Ragley Hall, Alcester.
First ever sell out for Maver Match This Qualifier. For the first time ever, this weekends Maver Match This qualifier has sold out. Although tickets sales have grown year on year over the first two years of the event, qualifiers have never come close to selling out – until now! This weekends match at Peterborough’s Decoy Lakes complex has now sold out completely, with all 120 tickets taken. Maver’s Ben Hughes commented: “It is massively encouraging that to see that anglers are getting behind the event – and this Decoy qualifier is a massive milestone for us.
Evesham Angling Festival this weekend! The clock is ticking to the start of British match fishing's
most heavily sponsored event - the Evesham Angling Festival. With over £27,000
up for grabs, river fishing's most prestigious weekend has once again secured
backing from Shakespeare, Wychavon District Council, and Match Fishing
Magazine.
For the anglers, the stakes couldn't be higher, but if you
fancy making the trip to Evesham to take in the action, then the festival has
more to offer than ever before. The craft fair - a popular feature last year -
has been extended, and is a must see attraction for lovers of country life.
This year's event will be held at Colemans Cottage Fishery in Essex on Saturday 6th October 2018. With Bob Nudd celebrating fishing with Browning for over 30 years this year as always we like to remember the heritage of our brand and reward our Browning supportive anglers too. Over the years we have seen poles aging over 30 years, some of which are immaculate and cared for and some proving they have stood the test of time and the rigors of match angling.
So do you have a Browning "classic" pole still being used today or even one you never wanted to pass on? Yes! Then this event is for you.
Harrell Confident That Rivermania Will Run This YearMatch fishing legend, Dave Harrell is convinced that his brainchild – an exciting new competition taking in most of the country’s top match rivers – is going to go ahead this year. “I have always felt that river fishing is lacking in a flagship, big-money event to capture the imagination of the anglers,” Dave explained. “For anglers in the Midlands, the Evesham Festival provides a great event for them to get involved with, but there are so many thriving river circuits up and down the country that have no greater prize to fish for – and I want to change that. "I ran a piece in the Angling Times outlining my idea, and asking for potential organisers to come forward, who might be interested in holding a qualifier on their venue.
Day Two of the Drennan Final gets underway. The second day of the Drennan Knockout Cup final has got underway, on the Day Ticket Lake, at the picturesque Docklow Pools in Herefordshire. Yesterday, Milton Keynes rod Michael Buchwalder established a significant lead over his rival, Lee Kerry – weighing in with 141-1-0 to Lee's 75-14-0. This means that to win, Lee will have to catch 65lb 3oz more than Michael on today's match.
Disappointment for England on tough venue. England's
veteran and disabled teams have returned from their respective World
Championships in Bosnia without a medal. The veterans World Championship
was won by Italy, and the Czech Republic lifted the winners trophy in
the disabled category. England's best result came from Daiwa
Dorking skipper, Steve Sanders, who finished in fourth place individually
in the veterans category, and won the match individually on the first day.

Historic Spring festival celebrates 30th Anniversary. As one of the oldest commercial fisheries in the Country, it is hardly suprising that Docklow Pools in Herefordshire boasts some of the oldest commercial fishing competitions - but the famous 'Jacko's Festival' that is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year must surely go down as one of the oldest. The event was originally run by venue owners Mike & Josie Bozward, who founded Docklow Pools back in 1972! As Mike reflects on the Docklow website, back in those days the charge for rent in the Farmhouse was just £1 a night! For the last 25 years Dave “Jacko” Jack & Phil Hoad from Essex have taken over the running of the festival, and created quite a following. Jacko explained: "At first, the event ran over Easter, and in the early days the close season rules were still in force - which meant targetting coarse fish was illegal, so Mike would stock some trout in the lakes, which we would fish for with worms.
