Fenland ace is Winter Festival king!Bait-Tech-backed rod, Lee Klimczuk has won the 2013 Garbolino Winter Festival at White Acres Fishery in Cornwall. The event, which was this year contested by 71 of the country's best silverfish anglers, is unique because normal carp don't count – meaning that weights are dominated by skimmers, roach, brown goldfish and F1s. As expected, the fishing proved exceptional, with numerous 50lb-plus individual weights being recorded throughout the five-day festival. Lee, who has long been regarded as a top allround anglers since his days with the mighty Essex County squad, won the event with a perfect score of four section wins, dropping a third.
Drennan has added two highly respected anglers to its ever-impressive portfolio. The first is England Veteran Joe Roberts from Northamptonshire, a long-serving member of the Kamasan Starlets squad who has also coached the England Disabled, Veterans and Juniors on a regular basis. He is now a successful member of the England Veterans himself with several section winning medals under his belt. Joe is a great all-rounder and particularly well known for his bream and skimmer prowess on both pole and feeder.

Nottingham-based Garbolino star lands 64lb 4oz sturgeon – thought to be the biggest ever UK freshwater fish caught on a pole!
Forced on to Lindholme Lakes owner Neil Grantham’s private, previously unfished, garden lake due to the Garbolino Club Angler Of The Year taking up the rest of the complex, the Garbolino and Bait-Tech backed angler Jason Le Bosquet got the shock of his life while shooting a feature for Match Fishing Magazine.
Geared up to demonstrate his prowess at fishing short, Jason was targeting carp and F1s on a short pole when both Jason and Match Fishing’s own Joe Carass spotted a huge tail come out of the water right over the bait!
Jason said “Neil had told me that there were four sturgeon in the lake up to 64lb but to be honest we were happily shooting a feature catching carp when the beast’s tail broke the surface. Before I knew what was really going on, the fish was hooked and the epic battle ensued. ”
“Early in the fight the fish was incredibly agile and leapt out of the water several times and it became clear I was hooked into a massive fish.

Massive carp on the feed. It is thought that Andy Leathers has taken an early lead in the 2013 Parkdean Masters Final, after banking three carp, all believed to be approaching double figures. Wrap up warm and get out there to catch some fish! Unfortunately that doesn’t always seem to be the case, and in the last few weeks I have been disappointed to see match attendances dropping as more and more people choose to stay at home rather than brave the cold.
I must say that the warmth of my bed this Sunday when the alarm went off at 6am was still very appealing, but with a good match ahead, a flask and plenty of warm clothes it wasn’t long before I was buzzing about what lay in store.
With these thoughts running through my head I wanted to use this month’s blog to try and inspire some enthusiasm to those of you who may otherwise be waiting for warmer times.
First of all, it is all about getting comfy.
