Close battle between Poland and England. As the second day of the World Championships moves past its halfway point, England are locked in a very close battle with host nations, Poland. The local experts are performing well in every section, targetting bleak in the difficult areas and roach in the more productive zones. That said, outstanding performances by England's Steve Hemingray, and Alan Scotthorne, who are both winning their sections is thought to be keeping England nudged in front of the home nation.

Big fish boosts England's hopes. With just over an hour to go, England's hopes of a team gold have received a boost - after Des Shipp, who was thought to be last in his section, has banked a skimmer, and several decent roach in the last few minutes. It is thought that this has pushed him up 12 places, to sixth in his section. Things aren't going so well for Will Raison now however, as more and more big fish are being caught in his section.

World Championship battle too close to call. The battle for the World Championship is too close to call, with just a couple of points seperating England and Poland. Going into the closing stages of the match, it is thought that England may be just edging the race, but with bigger fish now feeding throughout the match length, nothing can be taken for granted. Match Fishing's man on the bank, Matt Godfrey explained: "Myself and Callum Dicks have worked out that the most points England could have, including yesterdays score, is 27.

Drennan Team England win gold in Poland. Drennan Team England have won a team gold medal in the 2013 World Championship in Warsaw, Poland. After a close final-day battle, the team of Alan Scotthorne, Will Raison, Sean Ashby, Des Shipp and Steve Hemingray beat second-placed France by an eight-point margin. The good news for England doesn't stop there.

England seven points clear of second place. The World Championship in Poland has got off to a great start for Drennan Team England. The official result sheet shows that the team are seven points clear of second placed Poland on 14 points. Interestingly, the recorded fish count shows England have today recorded 570 fish, their closest rival being Poland on 295.

2013 World Championship gets underway. The 2013 world Freshwater Angling Championship has just got underway on the Żerański Channel in Warsaw, Poland (pictured on the gallery below), with anglers now balling in their initial bombardment of groundbait. Fishing will begin at 9. 30, and finish at 1.

Promising start for Drennan Team England. Match Fishing's runners on the bank report a good start for Drennan Team England, who are fishing the World Championships in Warsaw, Poland. In A section, Des Shipp is thought to be among the leaders with six small roach, and a bonus 12oz skimmer, which should give him around 550g. Despite an early bream of 2kg for the Italian angler, the Bristol ace is now clawing back the lead, and is catching fish steadily.

Match Fishing's man on the bank, Matt Godfrey explained: "Sean is putting in a truly awesome display of bloodworm fishing, from one of the toughest areas of the match length. The anglers either side of him have caught just six and seven fish respectively, while Sean has well in excess of 50.

Match Fishing's runners on the bank report that Drennan Team England have taken a convincing early lead, at the end of the first hour of the World Championship on the Żerański Channel in Warsaw, Poland. In A section, Des Shipp is winning his section, and could even be leading the match overall with several chunky pommies, and two bonus skimmers of 1lb each. He is thought to have well over 1kg in weight.

Obviously, in fishing anything is possible, but as we move towards the last hour, every member of the team seems to be doing very well in their section.
