Scotthorne leads section, but Shipp struggles. Drennan Team England have got off to a mixed start on the second day of the 2013 World Championship in Poland. Five Times World Champion Alan Scotthorne is leading from the front, winning his section with half an hour of the match gone. Although the going is tough in his section, Alan has taken more than a dozen fish, and is comfortably ahead of second place.

Poland and Belgium catching well. "England still have plenty to worry about in this years World Championship, as Poland and Belgium who finished second and third respectively after yesterday, look to be fairing very well today. Close battle between Poland and England. As the second day of the World Championships moves past its halfway point, England are locked in a very close battle with host nations, Poland. The local experts are performing well in every section, targetting bleak in the difficult areas and roach in the more productive zones. That said, outstanding performances by England's Steve Hemingray, and Alan Scotthorne, who are both winning their sections is thought to be keeping England nudged in front of the home nation.

Big fish boosts England's hopes. With just over an hour to go, England's hopes of a team gold have received a boost - after Des Shipp, who was thought to be last in his section, has banked a skimmer, and several decent roach in the last few minutes. It is thought that this has pushed him up 12 places, to sixth in his section. Things aren't going so well for Will Raison now however, as more and more big fish are being caught in his section.

Shipp, Ashby and Raison winning their sections. Match Fishing's runners on the bank report that Drennan Team England have taken a convincing early lead, at the end of the first hour of the World Championship on the Żerański Channel in Warsaw, Poland. In A section, Des Shipp is winning his section, and could even be leading the match overall with several chunky pommies, and two bonus skimmers of 1lb each. He is thought to have well over 1kg in weight.

Possible perfect score for England. "I wouldnt be at all surprised if England record five section wins today. Obviously, in fishing anything is possible, but as we move towards the last hour, every member of the team seems to be doing very well in their section. Rush of coldwater slows World Championship sport. As the all out approaches on day one of the World Championship, the fishing is reported to have become very tough for anglers in E section, as a rush of cold water moving through the canal has lead to the fish switching off. Although it is making the fishing difficult, it is good news for England's Sean Ashby who is comfortably leading the section. In D section, Alan is still in control, some 20 fish ahead of the rest of the anglers in his section.

Four section wins and a third for Drennan Team England. Drennan Team England have recorded one of the most convincing first day results in World Championship history, taking just seven points on the first day of this years competition in Poland on the Żerański Channel in Warsaw, Poland. Will Raison, Alan Scotthorne, Sean Ashby and Steve Hemingray have all won their sections - with Des Shipp finishing in third place. Although the final points tallies are yet to be confirmed, it is thought that this will give England a very convincing lead over their rivals.

England seven points clear of second place. The World Championship in Poland has got off to a great start for Drennan Team England. The official result sheet shows that the team are seven points clear of second placed Poland on 14 points. Interestingly, the recorded fish count shows England have today recorded 570 fish, their closest rival being Poland on 295.

2013 World Championship gets underway. The 2013 world Freshwater Angling Championship has just got underway on the Żerański Channel in Warsaw, Poland (pictured on the gallery below), with anglers now balling in their initial bombardment of groundbait. Fishing will begin at 9. 30, and finish at 1.
