Then head down to the Evesham Beer Festival!For the first time in the events history, the Evesham Angling Festival will this year host its first ever beer and cider festival. Working with CAMRA favourite, and local Evesham free-house ‘The Fleece Inn’, the festival will offer some 30+ real ales and 10 traditional ciders. Located on Evesham’s Crown Meadow, the beer tent is right at the heart of the festival action – so you can enjoy a proper pint as you watch angling’s most prestigious river fishing event taking place. The beer festival will run from 10am till 7pm this Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Full Commercial National results. Last Saturday, 17th August proved to be a very successful day for Barnsley & District at the inaugral Angling Trust Team Commercial Stillwater Championship. Their ten man team came out on top finishing in Championship position with a fantastic cumulative weight of 428. 365 kg.
Evesham Town & Ferry Waters, 77 Fished. A turnout of 77 veterans graced the field in this year’s Shakespeare Veterans Championship. It was Ibstock rod Keith Kite, who banked the £500 winners cheque, and an invite for the prestigious Shakespeare Championship Final, with an 18-14-0 net from peg 8. Keith caught two barbel, feeding Sonubaits Spicy Sausage pellets, with an 8mm version of the same on the hook.
Evesham Angling Festival this weekend! The clock is ticking to the start of British match fishing's
most heavily sponsored event - the Evesham Angling Festival. With over £27,000
up for grabs, river fishing's most prestigious weekend has once again secured
backing from Shakespeare, Wychavon District Council, and Match Fishing
Magazine.
For the anglers, the stakes couldn't be higher, but if you
fancy making the trip to Evesham to take in the action, then the festival has
more to offer than ever before. The craft fair - a popular feature last year -
has been extended, and is a must see attraction for lovers of country life.
Openshaw and Frackowiak complete Maver Match This lineup. Steve Openshaw and Krysztof Frackowiak have become the last two people to qualify for the Maver Match This Final, after winning their respective qualifiers this weekend. The two matches, fished at Tunnel Barn Farm and Barston Lakes. A good turn-out saw ninety seven anglers attend the 2013 Maver Mega 'Match This' qualifier at the popular Tunnel Barn Farm.

qualifiers, the fishing was tough for many. Gloucester Angling Centre’s
Tony Davis put in a star performance from unfancied peg 31, to win the
day with a 7-12-0 net. This was made up of a 6-8-0 barbel, and several
smaller roach taken on hempseed.

Barnsley Blacks have won the first ever Angling Trust Commercial
National. The event, which was contested by 18 teams of ten was fished
across Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, Hayfield Lakes and Daiwa Hallcroft
Fishery. Barnsley won the event by over 100 kilos – and also
boasted the individual winner in the shape of James Dent, who weighed 98
kilos from the end peg on Moat Pool at Daiwa Hallcroft fishery. Barnsley’s
captain, Glen Lawrence was delighted when he found out that his team
had won: “I haven’t fished myself today, but it’s been awesome
performance from the lads.
Angling Trust to publish competitions expenditure. The Angling Trust has today announced that it will publish a full breakdown of its income and expenditure for all the matches that it runs. The announcement comes on the back of an ‘Agent X’ article in Match Fishing magazine, and a thread on the Angling Answers forum, which has seen numerous anglers question where the ‘administration’ money that taken out of the pot actually goes. Trust Member, and DHP Digital News Editor Tom Scholey commented: “I am delighted that the Trust have finally decided to co operate and publish how their administration fees are used.

BBC’s One Show highlights cormorant issue. The
prime time BBC current affairs show, ‘The One Show’ has highlighted one
of angling’s biggest problems – the fish eating cormorants that are
ravaging our inland fish stocks. Reporter, Miranda Krestovnikoff
describes the birds as "formidable predators of fish" and wintesses
first hand how devastating an impact cormorants are having. The hit show, presented by Matt Baker and Alex Jones, interviews Angling Trust Chief Executive, Mark Lloyd about the problem.
