Klimczuk Top At White Acres
Fenland ace is Winter Festival king!
Bait-Tech-backed rod, Lee Klimczuk has won the 2013 Garbolino Winter Festival at White Acres Fishery in Cornwall.
The event, which was this year contested by 71 of the country's best silverfish anglers, is unique because normal carp don't count – meaning that weights are dominated by skimmers, roach, brown goldfish and F1s.
As expected, the fishing proved exceptional, with numerous 50lb-plus individual weights being recorded throughout the five-day festival.
Lee, who has long been regarded as a top allround anglers since his days with the mighty Essex County squad, won the event with a perfect score of four section wins, dropping a third.
The Whittlesea, Cambridgeshire rod explained: "I have had a great week's fishing, and to end up winning the festival has been the icing on the cake really. I haven't been doing a lot of fishing lately, so have really enjoyed getting back into it this week, and to come out on top of such a strong field is a great feeling."
In second place was Lee's old captain from back in the Essex County days, Drennan-backed legend Wayne Swinscoe. Wayne counted three section wins and a second, also dropping a third place result. Third place was taken by Nathan's of Derby owner, and top Midlands rod, Nathan Hughes.
Following the presentation, Simon Fry, representing the event's sponsor, Garbolino, congratulated the winners: "It has been yet another fantastic festival, with a very worthy winner in Lee Klimczuk. The fishing has once again proved fantastic, and on behalf of the anglers, I would like to thank the White Acres Fishery team for a very well run event!"
