Preston Innovations Gis 14 Absolute

Joe Carass checks out a new flagship pole that’s set to become a big seller in 2011…

Preston Innovations has managed to raise the bar in pole design yet again with the GiS 14 Absolute. In an era where every pole we see is aimed at carp fishing, it makes a refreshing change to find a pole that is beautifully light and stiff, yet still retains plenty of strength for those situations when you need it. Preston has worked closely with Tommy Pickering and Des Shipp to produce the ultimate match pole.

With the GiS 14 Absolute you get an excellent package of two match top fours, three power top twos, one short No4, one Kup Kit and Kups and a 10-tube GiS holdall. As with all the poles in the GiS range, all of the sections from the older poles fit, so if you already have a GiS pole and are looking at upgrading, this pole may be the one for you. The pole carries a No14 elastic rating when using the standard top kits, and a No16 rating when a power kit is used.

The usual features used on Preston poles are still there, with Sun Core, Magic Steps and Fusion all helping the pole perform as well as it does. After holding the pole at various tackle shows I was really looking forward to getting it out onto the bank. My opportunity came on a recent trip to the excellent Packington Somers Fishery. I decided to have a fish at 14.5 metres with pellets and maggots, looking for F1s, skimmers and carp. There was a strong crosswind that made presentation difficult but this pole made things really easy due to its rigidity. I also tried the extra section in a rare calm spell, and at 16 metres this pole feels fantastic!

The session turned out to be extremely hard but while I sat waiting for bites it made me appreciate the quality of this pole. It’s rare to see a pole as light as this and it truly is a pleasure to use; it is still reassuringly strong and easily deserving of its No16 elastic rating.
My session ended with me landing several quality carp to 9lb on a doubled No5 elastic and the pole coped admirably. For an angler like me, who does a lot of all-round fishing, this pole would be perfect. From catching big bags of silvers on canals or catching 100lb weights on commercials, this pole can do it all.

Preston has billed the GiS 14 Absolute as its best-ever pole and, having fished with it myself, I definitely agree!
