Top northwest fishery sees radical makeoverCudmore Fishery – the venue that is hosting this year's Fish 'O' Mania Final – has undergone a radical makeover over recent months, following a change of management at the venue. Fishery manager, Frank Clarke has began putting in place a series of radical changes, including the refurbishment of pegs, a fish stocking programme and the resurfacing of many of the venue's roads. Frank explained: “We are extremely appreciative of all the anglers who fish here at Cudmore, and as such it is only right that we continually look to invest back into improving the fishery. "We have added over 4,000lb of fish to the already prolific Arena Pool, which will host the prestigious Fish 'O' Mania Final next month.

Maver ace gets silver surpriseMaver's Ben Hughes enjoyed a session to remember on a recent trip to Stourports Larford Lakes, after banking a 2lb 8oz roach!Ben explained: "I caught the fish on the bomb using a hair-rigged banded 8mm pellet fished at about 25 yards. I was targeting the resident carp and bream at the time, after being reliably informed by Andy Kinder that fishing an 8mm pellet whilst feeding 8mms over the top was the way to go. I had drawn permanent Peg 25 (about mid-way down the Speci burr). During this stage in the match I had already taken carp into double-figures and bream to 5lb, but a big roach was the last thing I expected! When I first connected with the fish, I initially thought it was another bream, but then it started to fight back and I thought it might be a small ‘stocky’.

Match Fishing's own Tom Scholey wins Mega Match This qualifier. A lower than anticipated turnout for the latest Mega Match This qualifier, at Cornwall’s White Acres, meant that anglers were given plenty of room, divided between Twin Oaks, Trelawney and Acorn lakes, with the resident carp responding positively to the 23°C temperatures. Winner on the day, and earning his place in August’s Mega Match This Grand Final, was Match Fishing/Pole Fishing magazines’ very own Tom Scholey. Tom made the most of his Peg 15 draw on Trelawney, where he opted to fish 6mm pellets shallow on the long pole.
