Awesome Andy in Riverfest Final. No one can deny that Preston ace Andy Power is having a phenomenal season on the commercial match scene - qualifying for the Fish 'O'Mania Final, Maver Match This Final, and leading the prestigious UK Angling Championship. In a rare summer break from commercial fishing, Andy entered the RiverFest qualifier on his local Bristol Avon at the weekend - and continued his awesome run of form by winning the 58 peg match! The Thatchers rod explained: "Contrary to what some people think, I actually prefer natural venue fishing to commercials, and between October and March river and canal fishing is pretty much all I do. It is only the size of matches in my area, and my desire to progress as an angler, that makes me fish commercials.

Leicester's Pete tops the Division Two National. To catch 100lb from a natural venue in England is an achievement; to win a National Championship with over 50 kilos of bream is nothing short of incredible – but this is exactly what Pete Marlow achieved in Saturday's Division Two National on the Great Ouse. In the team stakes, it was Devizes Angling Association that topped a strong field, with a 243-point score – beating Garbolino Blackhorse and Maver Bait Tech by just a single point. The team, made up of G Williamson, N Baker, K Rowles, A McTiffin, J Carty, N Franks, A Carter, R Guy, D Clapton and R Kepner averaged 24 points out of a possible 33.

Ministers urged to ban domestic use of hazardous chemical. Following the identification of the pesticide chlorpyrifos as the cause of last month's pollution of a 15km section of the upper Kennet between Marlborough and Hungerford, the Angling Trust has written to Environment minister Richard Benyon calling for the chemical to be withdrawn from domestic use. It has been estimated that as little as half a cupful poured down a local drain and entering the river via the Marlborough Sewage treatment works resulted in the almost complete wipe-out of macro invertebrates in the affected stretch. Chlorpyrifos is regularly used on lawns and golf courses and to tackle insects on crops and some soft fruits.
