Pollard takes the win in first Riverfest of the year. The very first qualifier for the Angling Trust Riverfest competition took place this weekend on the River Yare. The weather had changed from very hot and sunny to damp and overcast with a chilly easterly wind. With excellent roach bags coming out during practice off the match length during the week most anglers were expecting the roach to dominate proceedings, however with the overcast conditions and a full ebb tide throughout the match the, up until now rather elusive bream and skimmers were likely to have a go.

In the first-ever Barford Summer Festival, held recently on the Warwickshire Avon at Barford, near Warwick, the top honours went to Shakespeare team man Tony Marshall. In a convincing display over the three days’ fishing, river ace Tony dropped only one section point, but still finished just one ahead of Sensas/WB Clarke angler Adrian Narbeth. In third place, another point behind, was Dave Smith, also Sensas/WB Clarke.

Rob Wootton wins coveted Ivan Marks memorial. The ninth running of the two-day Ivan Marks Memorial Event was greeted with a sell-out attendance of anglers, and many spectators to boot, fished at the fabulous Leicestershire Glebe complex of Mallory Park Fisheries, which also included the Foundation Lake situated adjacent to the famous race circuit. The 100 anglers that fished on each day experienced different conditions, as on the Saturday it was a very chilly venue indeed and the fish thought exactly the same! Although the weights look quite impressive it was hard going for most, but the class acts shone through. One man who made the job look easy was Preston Innovations-backed Adam Wakelin, who came well clear of the field after leading from the start, drawn on the first peg on Glebe Pool 4 and catching steadily with the feeder to amass a weight of 154lb 4oz of mainly carp.
