Black Viper rods are the most successful line of feeder rods in the Browning range in the history of the company. When they were originally introduced, they displaced the prevailing mostly stiffer rod series and offered unprecedented performance for the angler. Even with less power, long casting distances became almost child's play. No wonder these "venomous snakes" have been essential equipment for countless serious feeder anglers ever since.
130 competitors gathered at the picturesque Hayfield Lakes, Doncaster on Saturday 12th March 2016 for the third Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier on a cool misty morning. The fishery had recovered well after the recent heavy rains and although there was a cool south easterly breeze blowing the weather looked set fair. Recent 200 lb weights on this venue added to the expectation of a good days fishing. As the match got under way, reality soon dawned that that the cool wind and was having an effect, with most anglers struggling for early bites in the conditions.
Our new blogger Ben Sharp reports back from Castle Ashby AT Winter League that was held on the 27th February. My name is Ben Sharp, I am 23 and I have been match fishing for over 10 years, mainly at club level and local open matches. However, over the last four years I have pushed myself further into fishing bigger matches and qualifiers, qualifying for last year’s Maver Mega Match This Final being my biggest achievement to date.
About a year ago, after seeing a small advert in Match Fishing magazine from a team called Preston Innovations Black Horse entitled “Calling out for young anglers,” I contacted the captain, Dan Webb, about joining.
Details of prestigious competiton confirmed.
Entries are now being accepted from invited anglers who wish to book in for this year’s Drennan Knockout Cup.
The event, which many regard as being among the most prestigious on the calendar, sees anglers compete over five rounds in a knockout competition, which takes place on commercial fisheries, canals and running water.
Round one this year is on the 20th May at the prolific Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery near Warwick.

NET IT OR SWING IT?
Alan Scotthorne looks at the pros and cons of netting or swinging a fish in?
Whether to reach for the landing net or risk swinging a fish in is a decision that I am sure we have all had to make at some point in our fishing.
The Build-Up
Following on from a couple of good results in my most recent matches, I decided that I would try something a little different from the standard matches where F1 or carp are the dominant species. This would come in the form of a silvers-only match at Hampton Springs Fishery in Malpas, Chester.
I had been meaning to make an appearance here before now but other matches or events had prevented me from making the trip. Instead, Helen Dagnall and Dave Brooks, who had been asking me to book on with them, just rubbed it in telling me how well it had been fishing!
However, a free Sunday and I booked myself onto the match.
