First And Second Place For English Teams, And Individual Victory For Alex BonesEnglish feeder teams have taken first and second place in the Van Den Eydne Matrix International Feeder Fishing Challenge, on Belgium’s Gent to Terneuzon Canal. Captain of the winning England Green Team, Match Fishing Editor Alex Bones, also lead from the front – taking individual victory with a perfect two-point score. His team, made up of Rob Wootton (who finished second overall), Grant Albutt, Adam Rooney and Adam Wakelin, had just 15 points after the first day – leaving the other squads with everything to do if they wanted to beat them. Alex explained: “England team manager, Tommy Pickering left it to each of the three teams to formulate their own tactics – and fortunately, I think we got things pretty much right.

The England Ladies steamed to victory this weekend, taking gold in the World Championship held on the River Sava in Radece, Slovenia. The event involved 18 teams and after day one the England Ladies were lying in eighth place, but only 12 points away from gold in an incredibly tight frame. Winning the event, however, came as a big surprise as the team thought they were out of contention before the weigh-in on day two. Their unpredicted score of just 18 penalty points won the second day, though, and pushed them to the top of the podium overall.

June 14thand 15th saw the European Feeder Championships take place on the Gent to Terneuzen Canal in Holland. In an effort to equal their previous best, three teams from England entered the two-day 23-team, 115 angler European Feeder Challenge. Held on the Gent to Terneuzen Canal, Holland, they returned with respectable overall team positions – second, fourth and fifth along with a collection of individual silverware, too. While they all missed out on team gold this year to Belgium team – Mega Fish T – it was Team GURU, partially consisting of full international team members Steve Ringer, Phil Ringer and Dean Barlow along with Feeder International fringe anglers Rob Wootton and Adam Rooney completing the five-man strong outfit, who took the second team spot with 61 points behind Mega Fish T’s tally of 52.

Feeder team catching well in South Africa. Match Fishing's man on the bank in South Africa has reported that Preston Innovations Team England are doing very well in the first two days of official practice ahead of this years World Feeder Championship, which takes place this weekend It is reported that England had 42 Carp today, with other nations averaging between 15 and 30 fish - which is leading many to speculate that England have got their tactics just right. As more and more bait goes into the venue, it is also said that the fishing is getting better and better, with more and more fish homing in on the bait. Understandably, team England are keen not to disclose too much about the tactics that they are using.

Steve Hemingray to sit out on Day One Drennan Team England has announced the team for the first day of the World Championship, with last year's silver medallist Hemingray missing out. The team will be Sean Ashby, Will Raison, Alan Scotthorne, Des Shipp and making his World Championship debut, Callum Dicks. England will be looking to add yet another gold medal to their tally, but the demanding venue is certainly going to prove a tough nut to crack for the team. Held on a man-made channel that serves as flood relief between Lake Dubrava and the River Drava, the anglers have had to cope with a torrent of a venue with exceptionally strong flows.

The team – made up of five-time World Champion Alan Scotthorne, and former World Champion Will Raison – were pre-match favourites, but didn’t have things all their own way. The Scottish team – Dave Corcoran and Jamie Masson – led for much of the competition, with both anglers catching carp steadily up in the water.

Drennan Team England take European gold in dramatic fashion! Faced with an ultra-hard Hensies-Pommeroeul Canal, England were staring down the barrel with just 30 minutes remaining of Day Two. Both Will Raison and Sean Ashby latched into a bream in the last half an hour, which catapulted them both up to third in section. This meant the team took the gold by a ‘comfortable’ margin of just one point ahead of a determined Russian team. The fishing required ‘balls of steel’ as just one bream meant excellent points on a canal where the odd bream could only be backed up with tiny perch and bullheads.
