Anglers taking part in last weeks Upper Thames Winter League enjoyed a match to remember, with over 40lb needed to win on a very cold and clear Kennet & Avon Canal. Suprisingly, the practice match the week before the round fished totally differently, with extremely low weights being recorded. With the canal closed for navigation due to lock repairs, and the cold nights the canal was crystal clear.

Infectious fish diseases such as Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) and Spring Viraemia of Carp (SVC) have long been suspected of wiping out carp stocks if allowed to take hold in a water. Introducing live fish originating from unproven safe stock into a fishery is known to pose the greatest risk of disease transmission. But other causes, such as contaminated angling equipment, have also been thought to pose a risk.

The final Southern qualifier of the 2017 Maver Mega Match This campaign marked a return to Coleman's Cottage in Essex where fifty four (54) anglers lined the banks of Copse, Pathfield and Woods lakes. Anglers were given plenty of room on the day with the standard of sport and weights recorded being very good. Competing anglers needed in excess of 150lbs in order to grab a British Pole Championship qualification place. Conditions on the day were ideal with plenty of cloud cover coupled with a good breeze producing fourteen weights over 100lbs.
Anglers who don’t attend presentation will see their winnings donated to charity. White Acres Fishery Manager, Clint Elliott has introduced a new rule, that will see anglers who don’t attend the presentation without good reason have their winnings donated to charity. The rule comes after a string of poor presentation attendances, culminating in this years Parkdean Masters Final – where just ONE competitor –Phil Ringer - watched Harry Billing picked up the bumper cheque for the second time in his career. Clint has also had enough of the big-name anglers fishing the various festivals failing to attend the nightly presentations where daily lake prizes and section winnings are handed out.

Contested by some of the UK's best commercial teams, including Maver Midlands and Drennan Northwest, the league takes in some of the country's most prolific venues. Taking place over six matches between October and December, the league takes in Cudmore Fishery, Heronbrook Fishery, Partridge Lakes and Boldings Fishery.
Full Commercial National results. Last Saturday, 17th August proved to be a very successful day for Barnsley & District at the inaugral Angling Trust Team Commercial Stillwater Championship. Their ten man team came out on top finishing in Championship position with a fantastic cumulative weight of 428. 365 kg.

Garbolino Lindholme Lakes owner, Neil Grantham, has taken the decision to ban the use of the bait for open matches, but is still happy for it to be used in larger one-off matches where permission is previously granted by him. However,Match Fishing editor, Alex Bones, who runs the event has taken the decision to ban its use on the Drennan Knockout Cup round (round one).

he Bob Warden Memorial match 2018 was fished by 22 anglers on the Kennet & Avon canal from the Malthouse to the George. A fantastic amount of £304. 10 was raised for lung research! Conditions were mild and dry and there was a fair bit of colour in the canal. Being a bank holiday weekend, there was a lot of boat traffic all day.
