Editor, Alex Bones, visits Europe to check out the convention-defying square Z14-1 Advance. When the designers at Browning sat down to revamp their flagship pole it was always going to have to be a bit special to beat its predecessor, the mighty Xitan Z12. With most manufacturers now taking advantage of advances in carbon technology it’s fair to say that if you stripped the graphics from most flagship poles on the market you’d struggle to separate them in terms of performance. Where Browning has scored, in particular with its Z12, was the comprehensive nature of the package.

The introduction of a new technology that will dramatically cut transfer of fish disease is the result of leading lights from British industry pulling together. BSafe - short for 'bacteria safe - began life in the mind of avid angler Derek Willan, who believes that all anglers should be doing their bit to safeguard fish health in the UK. Derek explained: "Virus outbreaks were getting all the press but research revealed that the bigger killers were a relatively small group of bacteria which the Environment Agency confirmed were present in the majority of fish mortalities they attended in 2013.

“It has been proven under laboratory conditions that disease can be transferred on nets to fish, and I feel as anglers we have a duty of care to look into any avenue that can help ensure healthier fish stocks.

Preston ace makes it three wins on the bounce! Winning three consecutive matches is difficult enough – but winning three 50+ peggers on the ultra competitive fens circuit is nothing short of a momentous achievement – and that is exactly what Preston Innovations and Sonubaits backed ace Michael Buchwalder has achieved. Bread has been the secret to success for the Milton Keynes based kitchen fitter, and this weeks result has been the lowest winning weight for the rod – and he still banked over 22lb of roach. He explained: “Although it is a fair old drive to the fens for me, it has been well worth the trip every time, as I have enjoyed three great days fishing – and won a fair bit of money in the process! I have undoubtedly drawn some very good pegs, and this week was no different – but the fish don’t jump in the net, and there are definitely things that you can do to improve the efficiency of your fishing. In this weeks match, I had to chase the fish up and down my peg, varying the distance that I was fishing to keep in touch with fish.
