Bizarre catch lands angling ace £1,000 prize!Preston Innovations-backed ace Des Shipp left 100 fellow competitors open-mouthed, after taking victory in a big-money match today with the help of a 41lb arapaima – landed on the pole!Des caught the bizarre fish from Gold Valley Lakes near Aldershot, and at first, had no idea what he had captured. He explained: “I've been having quite a lot of success over the last few weeks glugging my luncheon meat in Predator Plus liquid, and can only think that the red scent trail proved irresistible to the predator. ”Fishery manager, Will Raison was as surprised as Des at the capture: “It’s the first time we have ever had any predatory species like this show up here at Gold Valley. We did accept some fry from a local zoo a number of years ago, believing them to be carp, and all I can think is that the baby arapaima was mixed in with them.

Anglers secure agreement for safe relocation of 'Keith' the Severn Seal The Angling Trust has announced that it will not be pursuing an application to Natural England for a licence to shoot the Severn seal, following the conclusion of an agreement with the British Divers Marine Life Rescue service which will see both organisations working together to relocate the mammal back to the sea, protecting vulnerable freshwater fish stocks. A press release from the Angling Trust explained: "The longer the seal remains away from its natural habitat, the greater the risk of it coming to harm from eating food thrown to it by the public or being injured by lock gates or boat propellers. Recent drops in river levels have improved the prospects of the animal either being rescued, or heading out to sea. The Angling Trust said that it felt that it had little choice but to consider reluctantly securing a licence in response to requests by local clubs and anglers and after the Environment Agency and Natural England failed to take any action whatsoever to manage the situation, despite ongoing and severe damage to the rivers stocks by the marine mammal.
Drennan Barnsley Blacks take Division 1 crown on the River Trent A total of 42 teams (420 competitors) fished the River Trent on various sections of the river from the non-tidal section downstream of Nottingham to the tidal section upstream of Torksey in the Angling Trust Division 1 National Championship on Saturday, August 9th, 2014.
Weather conditions were far from ideal, with bright sunshine and blustery winds generally blowing downstream with the current. Recent rains had put just a tinge of colour in the water, but on the tidal stretches the river ran out from the top of the tide soon after the start whistle.
In a dramatic race for the team title, Barnsley & District just pipped Shakespeare Superteam by a single point with 336 points.

Alex said: “ Unlike many sports angling coaching seems to be very limited in terms of the number of people offering their services so hopefully this will be a way to pass on my knowledge of the venue and help others in the way many have helped me over the years.
The plan is to offer a multitude of sessions ranging from group days and evening classes to a full day’s one to one tuition.
