This seems to be a regular report these days, but the Barston record has been smashed yet again!
Venue regular and former Fish ‘O’ Mania champion Mick Bull was the man to do the damage after drawing Peg 2 on the main lake. It was a dream draw with carp after carp falling to Method feeder and pole tactics.
After a prolific five hours, Mick weighed an awesome 199lb 2oz, adding 5lb to Suzi Smith’s previous record.
Venue owner Nigel Harrhy was overjoyed with the weight: “Barston has been in phenomenal form over the last two weeks so it was only a matter of time before a new record was caught.
Evesham Festival Qualifying Match ReportThe River Avon was on top form for this Wednesday's Evesham Championship qualifier, providing very consistent sport right through the match length, as chub, perch and quality roach fed in numbers. The lowest section winning weight was 6-13-0, and one unlucky angler didn’t make the frame with a whopping 9-3-0!Top dog on the night was in form Worcester rod, James Wilson. James, who has already made headlines this year by qualifying for the £50,000+ Maver Match This Final, has now won a place in both the Evesham and Wychavon Finals to boot. The Alan’s Tackle-backed talent fished worm and maggot at seven metres, catching several small perch, before switching to a line fed with caster and groundbait at 16 metres, fooling chublets and quality roach for a 12lb winning total.
Join The Elite! Joe Carass gives his verdict on the awesome new Maver Elite Carp 4 pole – the new flagship offering that has really got people talking. Maver has introduced two ranges of poles for 2014, both of which are being sold through its superb Centre of Excellence initiative, whereby some products can only be purchased from a nominated Maver Centre of Excellence tackle shop. Maver’s flagship Signature range are stunning poles aimed at the all-round angler. However, the poles that really grab my attention are the brand’s Elite Carp range.

Alex Bones has a glance at Shimano’s latest marvels – the AR-C Aero CI4+ reels. The first thing that’ll strike you if you get the chance to pick up one of these magnificent pieces of engineering is the weight… or lack of it, more to the point! It’s like an Aero Match that’s been on a leafy-lettuce crash diet. However, the remarkable part is that the CI4+ material that’s used is 250 per cent stronger than Shimano’s already impressive CI4 material, while also being 20 per cent lighter than its XT-7 graphite! While that may all sound like a bunch of letters and numbers there is some real science behind what Shimano has managed to achieve, which, among other benefits, makes it completely impervious to water (even saltwater) and rust. Deriving from the company’s Japanese spinning roots, this is a super high-performance reel designed to rival almost anything out there for float or feeder applications.
Joe Carass explains why two rods from Preston Innovations have stood the test of time!I remember sorting my kit out for my first-ever trip to White Acres. Filled with excitement, I had asked for advice on the tackle I would need and top of the list was a Preston Innovations Mini 11ft Float rod. Being the keenster that I am, I made sure I bought the rod ready for my first trip to ‘pellet-waggler heaven’, as it was at the time. Needless to say, my first trip there was something of a disaster.
