EA plan weed cutting on top East Anglia venue. The Environment Agency will cut back weeds to prepare the River Great Ouse, for this years Divison Two National and Preston Innovations World Club Classic, it has been announced today. It is also hoped that the exercise will provide results to help the agency better understand the river’s fish stocks. The Division Two National will this year take place on August 3rd on the River Ouse, an Environment Agency owned fishery near Littleport (between Ely and Denver).
Pollard takes the win in first Riverfest of the year. The very first qualifier for the Angling Trust Riverfest competition took place this weekend on the River Yare. The weather had changed from very hot and sunny to damp and overcast with a chilly easterly wind. With excellent roach bags coming out during practice off the match length during the week most anglers were expecting the roach to dominate proceedings, however with the overcast conditions and a full ebb tide throughout the match the, up until now rather elusive bream and skimmers were likely to have a go.
Garbolino ace wins place in big money spectacular. Garbolino and Dynamite Baits backed ace, Andy Geldart has become only the second person ever to qualify for all three Maver Match This Finals, after winning the qualifier at Partridge Lakes in Cheshire with a weight of 134-09-00. Andy drew peg 4 on Ribbon and fished caster shallow at 11m to catch F1s and ide for the duration of the match. He joins Andy Power - who also qualified for his third final earlier this year.
Shakespeare Superteam ace is top on Avon. In the first-ever Barford Summer Festival, held recently on the Warwickshire Avon at Barford, near Warwick, the top honours went to Shakespeare team man Tony Marshall. In a convincing display over the three days’ fishing, river ace Tony dropped only one section point, but still finished just one ahead of Sensas/WB Clarke angler Adrian Narbeth. In third place, another point behind, was Dave Smith, also Sensas/WB Clarke.
Daiwa Gordon League ace qualifies for two big money finals in as many days. Daiwa Gordon League rod, Mark Gaylard has had a weekend to remember, after qualifying for both the Shakespeare and Wychavon Championship finals on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham. As well as earning a place in the two August Bank Holiday finals – which could see Mark win up to £9,000 in prize money – he banked almost £400 in winnings over the two days, making for a very profitable weekend. Mark’s good run of fortune started on Saturday’s Wychavon Championship qualifier, when he drew the end peg at the top end of the match length.
Raison reflects on Fisho success. If one man's name has been on the lips of the Country’s match anglers over the last five days, it has been that of England International, and Daiwa and Old Ghost backed ace, Will Raison. On Sunday, Will put up what many have described to be the best display of angling that they have ever witnessed – winning the Fish ‘O’Mania International challenge individually, and helping Drennan Team England to victory. But Will, and team mate Alan Scotthorne didn’t have it all their own way – with well over half of the match gone, England were lying fifth – almost 20 kilos behind the eventual runners up, Scotland.

Popular commercial hosts August Bank Holiday Festival. Bonehill Mill Fishery has announced a three day August Bank Holiday festival. Taking place on Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th and Monday 26th of August, the festival will see anglers compete on Mill Pool, Ashley’s Pool and Dale’s Pool at the Tamworth complex. The festival costs just £100 to enter and there will also be an optional super pool of £10 per day.
