With Marukyu starting to take the bait market by storm, Joe Carass decided to take a look at one of its most popular products… krill!Marukyu is still a fairly new name on the UK bait market. The baits are clearly very good but, never one to follow fads, I must admit to being fairly sceptical about them at first. I mean, I have always been of the opinion that as long as the bait we use is fresh and good quality and the fish are in front of you, then you will catch them! My opinion has changed somewhat of late, however, after going on several features with Jamie Masson, and also noticing the continuing list of results that Andy Kinder has been getting. With both of these top anglers using Marukyu products I felt I really needed to take a closer look.

Bream and tench throw up a surprise win as anglers take some good weights. The first week in October saw 36 Anglers compete in Ripon Piscatorial Associations Inaugural River Ure Festival Trophy. The sections used ran from above the city’s North Bridge down to Hewick Bridge near the racecourse, with the pegs cherry picked from the clubs available 65 in the stream sections which ensured a fair festival was in prospect. A busy year of planning which involved the river being totally re-pegged and lots of tree clearance, pegs were made more accessible so the sections to be used were suitable for such an event.

A tight finish to the midweek open match at Makins. WEDNESDAY ‘KOBRA’ OPENLAKE TWO DYNAMITE MAKINSOctober 12 2011 Number of pegs: 20Once again fish were spread all round Lake Two (Dynamite Makins) for the Wednesday KOBRA Open, with all of the top eight in with a chance of ‘framing’ right up to the final whistle. Clear winner was Phil Jarram (Dynamite Baits) who drew peg B17 (yet again) and fishing pellet on straight bomb over light feed he caught carp throughout the last 2 hours to total 92-00. Second placed Fred Coxon (Kobra Feeders) on peg A15 was catching carp at a steady rate on pole and pellet before breaking his pole which curtailed his activity, but his 77-04 was still enough to put him well clear of third placed Andrew Blackwell (Buckingham) whose 55-04 of carp were taken in the final hour on sweet corn fished in the margins.
