Big barbel sees Shakespeare ace in Evesham Final. Evesham’s resident barbel were in a very obliging mood for this the last of the normal Evesham Championship qualifying matches of the season. A total of four of the whiskery critters were hooked and landed, the best belonging to the eventual match winner, Tony Bench. Drawn on Peg 2 on the town water, Tony really struggled for the early part of the match, managing just a few small fish on feeder and waggler tactics.

Drennan Barnsley Blacks take Division 1 crown on the River Trent A total of 42 teams (420 competitors) fished the River Trent on various sections of the river from the non-tidal section downstream of Nottingham to the tidal section upstream of Torksey in the Angling Trust Division 1 National Championship on Saturday, August 9th, 2014. Weather conditions were far from ideal, with bright sunshine and blustery winds generally blowing downstream with the current. Recent rains had put just a tinge of colour in the water, but on the tidal stretches the river ran out from the top of the tide soon after the start whistle. In a dramatic race for the team title, Barnsley & District just pipped Shakespeare Superteam by a single point with 336 points.

Chris Vandervleit books a place in the £50K Match This Final Ninety-seven tickets were sold for Sunday’s Mega Match. This qualifier at Barston Lakes, Solihull. Conditions on the day were pleasant with plenty of sunshine and a decent ripple with anglers spread across the main lake. Anglers were a little unsure as to how the qualifier would fish, given how soon the qualifier took place after the latest British Carp Championship semi-final.

England feeder team manager won’t fish in the setup. After the England Feeder team’s roaring success in Ireland this year, manager, Tom Pickering, has taken the decision to step down from fishing to concentrate solely on managing the team. “I always said that when I reach the point where I’m happy with the team, I’d step down as an angler in the setup,” revealed Tom. And, with England team and individual gold medals secured this year, Tom was rewarded with the result he and the rest of the lads had long hoped for.
