Good year ahead predicted at White Acres!Match legend, and manager of Cornwall’s White Acres Holiday Park, Clint Elliott has predicted a great year for his guests, after a cracking personal winter campaign at the venue. “Considering how up and down the weather has been, I couldn’t be more happy with how good the fishing has been at White Acres this winter. I was lucky enough to win the Cornish Winter League, and we enjoyed pretty consistent sport throughout" he explained. "The last round a couple of weeks ago was a real highlight – I drew on Jenny’s and managed 60lb of roach and F1s, a brilliant days fishing in anybody’s book! This was only good enough for third overall – and in that particular match carp didn’t count! In terms of the stocking of the fishery, I haven’t changed a lot this year.

Silver bream seal victory for Welsh International. Former Shakespeare Champion Andrew Murphy took the honours in the second Shakespeare Championship qualifying match of the year on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham, with a 20lb 2oz net of silver bream from the newly created Peg 87. Andrew, or ‘Spud’ as he is affectionately known to many, caught his fish on the waggler – feeding sparsely with bronze maggots and fishing a single bronze maggot on the hook. He ended the match with around 25 silver bream, and a good perch to take victory with over 1lb to spare.

England struggle in the World Club Championship. The English representatives in the 2013 World Club Championship, Kamasan Starlets, have finished in a disappointing 17th place in the weekend’s event. The two-day match was fished on the extremely difficult Brian Canal in Italy, a venue that saw the English side struggle to work out the methods needed. They weren’t alone, though, as even the home side, Trabucco Ravenelli, found the going tough with very few fish to be caught.

Kamasan Starlets edge out Daiwa Dorking in Angling Trust Winter League Semi Final! Mid-week frosts led to a clearer canal than seen during the recent excellent practices and, coupled with bright sunshine, led to a slow start for the 89 competitors on the Angling Trust Southern Winter League semi final held on Saturday, March 29th, 2014 on the Kennet and Avon canal, Marlborough. Subsequently, the famed skimmers normally found on these prolific sections failed to materialise in any numbers and the roach were reluctant to feed until the latter stages of the match. So it became a perch match and thankfully they obliged in numbers. Daiwa Gordon Leagues' Dave Micklewright virtually had the match won in the first 30 minutes when he landed seven large perch to 3lb on worm and maggot fished over chopped worm from his peg on the tree at Potters.
