Compared to 25 years ago, we are seeing new and different venues, methods and anglers rising, while other disciplines are seemingly declining in popularity. Tom Pickering has been fishing for over 40 years, and has risen to the very pinnacle of the sport, being crowned World Champion, and now captaining the England Feeder Team.

Match Fishing’s Joe Carass has something on his chest that he needs to get off! F1s, F1s, F1s, I’ve got bloody F1s on the brain at the moment. I go to sleep thinking of F1s and I wake up, still thinking about them. Yes I am totally obsessed by them! I think they get a bit of a bad rap. I hear no end of ‘star’ names slagging the poor little devils off and I can’t really think of a logical reason why.

Lee commented: "I am over the moon to be in the final, and to be honest it still hasn't quite sunk in yet. I had quite a slow start to the match, but when the fish turned up, they turned up in numbers and I was able to really clatter them for the last hour.

Maver 'Match This' Champ in hunt for £30K prize. Matrix and Bait Tech-backed ace Les Thompson has made it two big finals in as many years, after winning the Fish 'O' Mania qualifier at Essex venue, Colemans Cottage. He explained: “I had never even seen the venue prior to the match on Saturday, and when I drew Peg 4 on Copse Pool, I wasn’t too sure what to expect. The regulars told me that it was a decent area, but usually the pegs that can reach across to the island prove better – and all I had in front of me was open water.

Festival Win For Middy/ Bag 'Em Ace. Lee Thornton has won the Bag 'Em Matchbaits Heronbrook Easter Festival with a seven-point score. Fished over three days, the event attracted 60 of the country's finest anglers – with Lee finishing top after tying for first place with Paul Conroy, but taking the verdict on weight countback. Lee explained: “I have been looking forward to fishing in this three-day competition that is now in its second year of inception although, to be perfectly honest, when I booked in back in February, in the back of my mind I was half expecting to be fishing paste! "That said, I felt that a few of the things that I had learned by fishing through the winter would benefit me now for this festival (ironically, I think the water temperature was lower than two months ago!)"With the water temperature being so low, I felt that the only things worth taking to the venue would be maggots, micro pellets, 4mm Bag 'Em Expandas and a slice of bread.

Matrix back Tidal Trent Festival. Following on from good turnouts on the river last year, River Trent match organiser, Alan Henry has announced that the Tidal Trent Festival will be running again in 2013. He explained “Sadly last year we had to call the festival off after the first day due to the river flooding, after what we now know to be one of the wettest years on record. Even with the river out of sorts though, we still had 45 anglers enter the Festival.
