Awesome Andy in Riverfest Final. No one
can deny that Preston ace Andy Power is having a phenomenal season on
the commercial match scene - qualifying for the Fish 'O'Mania Final,
Maver Match This Final, and leading the prestigious UK Angling
Championship. In a rare summer break from commercial fishing,
Andy entered the RiverFest qualifier on his local Bristol Avon at the
weekend - and continued his awesome run of form by winning the 58 peg
match!The Thatchers rod explained: "Contrary to what some people
think, I actually prefer natural venue fishing to commercials, and
between October and March river and canal fishing is pretty much all I
do. It is only the size of matches in my area, and my desire to progress
as an angler, that makes me fish commercials.

Second series of 'Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr Crabtree' announced. A second series of the popular angling TV show, 'Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr Crabtree' has been scheduled – and the organisers are on the look out for young anglers to get involved. A press release from the producers explained: "‘Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree – The Quest’ will bring viewers back into the world of Crabtree, but this time we’ll be setting ourselves some new and greater challenges.
England seven points clear of second place. The
World Championship in Poland has got off to a great start for Drennan
Team England. The official result sheet shows that the team are seven
points clear of second placed Poland on 14 points. Interestingly, the recorded fish count shows England have today recorded 570 fish, their closest rival being Poland on 295.
Garbolino launch new poles for 2014. . . Names
like the Super Legion and Power Legion are enshrined in angling
folklore, being rightly regarded as some of the best poles of their
time.
New additive accounts for massive countrywide catches. A new bait additive that many anglers have described as the smelliest substance that they have ever come across has been accounting for some massive catches up and down the country. The additive, that the creators have simply named ‘Stinky Stuff’ is the result of over two years of scientific development. Creator, David Bailey explained: "The name Stinky Stuff came from people asking: "What's that stinky stuff?" when we were trialling it.
Match Fishing debates the current state of the sport. As we move into 2013, there is little doubt that the sport of angling is changing. Compared to 25 years ago, we are seeing new and different venues, methods and anglers rising, while other disciplines are seemingly declining in popularity. Tom Pickering has been fishing for over 40 years, and has risen to the very pinnacle of the sport, being crowned World Champion, and now captaining the England Feeder Team.

Speed has completed the line-up for the 2013 Fish 'O' Mania Final, which
takes place at Cudmore Fishery on Saturday, July 13th. Many are hailing the line-up, which
includes nine fully sponsored anglers, three former and current England internationals, and six former winners of big-money events, as the strongest ever. Bright sunshine and a
warm breeze greeted the competitors for the last Fish ‘O’ Mania
qualifier of the year at Lindholme Lakes, Epworth.

I think they get a bit of a bad rap. I hear no end of ‘star’ names slagging the poor little devils off and I can’t really think of a logical reason why.
Trentmen ace in Match This FinalNottingham ace Lee Wright has won the Maver Match This qualifier at Makins Fishery, earning himself a place in the £50,000 Maver Match This Final. Matrix, and Dynamite baits backed Lee drew Peg 9 on Reptile Lake and opted to fish casters in the shallow water up to the island, with maggots on the hook to end the match with 74-11-00. Lee commented: "I am over the moon to be in the final, and to be honest it still hasn't quite sunk in yet. I had quite a slow start to the match, but when the fish turned up, they turned up in numbers and I was able to really clatter them for the last hour.
