Northern and Southern venues set. Two of the four Angling Trust Winter League Semi Final venues have been confirmed. The Loughborough Canal will host a northern semi final – along with an unconfirmed commercial. Gold Valley Lakes will host the southern commercial round, but organisers are still on the hunt for a natural venue in the bottom half of the country.

UK Championships has new Sponsors The long-running and highly successful UK Angling Championship has a new sponsor. Cresta Match / Gamakatsu have recently been announced as the new sponsors in a deal which secures the future and TV coverage of one of the UK’s most credible and highest profile competitions. The UK Champs has been running since 1984 and has been won by some of the biggest names in history. Dick Clegg, Alan Scotthorne, Tommy Pickering and in more recent years the likes of Jon Arthur, and angling young gun Andy Power who is the current champion.

New partner sought for flagship match fishing event. One of the UK’s most prestigious match fishing events, the UK Angling Championship is seeking a new flagship sponsor, to ensure that the event is televised once again. For the past five years, the event has been sponsored by top tackle company Preston Innovations, but it has told the organisers that it won’t be supporting the competition this year. Lucky angler catches £10,000 cash at CLA Game Fair!Jersey-based accountant Andrew Dann was the lucky recipient of £10,000 cash after he won Fish for a Fortune at this year’s CLA Game Fair at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire. Entrants had just 20 minutes to catch a fish in the lake to then be eligible to be entered into the cash prize draw. At 4pm on the Sunday of the Show, Andrew’s name was plucked out of the hat at the Fish for a Fortune pontoon. The married father of two commented: “I was delighted to receive the news of my win! Chris Vandervleit books a place in the £50K Match This Final Ninety-seven tickets were sold for Sunday’s Mega Match. This qualifier at Barston Lakes, Solihull. Conditions on the day were pleasant with plenty of sunshine and a decent ripple with anglers spread across the main lake. Anglers were a little unsure as to how the qualifier would fish, given how soon the qualifier took place after the latest British Carp Championship semi-final.

Drennan ace qualifies for two big finals in as many days. Drennan rod, Dan Varney has enjoyed a weekend to remember, after qualifying for both the Evesham Championship, and the Wychavon Championship finals in successive matches. Even more remarkably, Dan did so from the same peg!After finishing second in the 83-peg Evesham Championship qualifier on Saturday, Dan drew the same number for Sunday's match, Peg 36 below the mouth of the River Isbourne. This time he went one better than his previous day’s performance, however, winning the match with an 11-5-0 net of chub, chublets and perch.

London-based legend Pete Vasey wins Ireland ClassicLondon's Pete Vasey has won the Ireland Classic with a weight of 87lb. The three-day, 216-angler-strong event event saw the ex-Essex County rod net a whopping £5,000 top prize, and take home the coveted crystal chalice, and a Daiwa rod-and-reel combo. After winning the match on the second day, Pete went into the final match needing a section win, and his final day catch of 10lb from the changeable Trory section was enough to capture the overall honours. In a changeable week weatherwise, anglers were faced with freezing rain on the first day of the event, and were getting sunburnt in their T-shirts by the third day!Second overall was Kevin Rowles from Devizes, whose total catch of 71lb earned him £2,000, a Crystal Trophy and a Daiwa tackle prize.

Adam Wakelin wins White Acres Garbolino Winter Festival. Adam Wakelin has been crowned champion of the Garbolino Winter Festival at Cornwall’s White Acres Fishery, after recording a maximum 24 point score. The contest saw 60 of the country’s best anglers battle it out, in a five day event in which only silver fish counted. Adam commented: “It is a great feeling lifting the trophy, as the fishing is always really good on this festival.

Tommy Pickering announces feeder trial. Preston Innovations England Feeder Team Manager, Tom Pickering is looking for talented anglers to compete in a Feeder trial on Saturday 28th September 2013. The trial will take place at Barston Lakes near Solihull. Anglers who wish to apply for the trial must be of open match standard, and able to cast and fish at 80 yards minimum.

Louth ace qualifies for fifth Fish 'O' Mania Final. Former Fish 'O' Mania champion Nathan Watson has qualified for the final for a fifth time after winning the qualifier at Woodland View Fishery. Nathan, who was also crowned ‘Champion Of Champions’ after winning a match between all previous winners, was overjoyed to have qualified once again. He explained: ”I wasn’t that confident when I drew Peg 11 on Ghost Pool, as the wind was pushing over my back, and though I had some room, the windward end of the lake looked far more appealing.
