Mild weather sparks January feeding frenzy!Venues up and down the country have been enjoying an unseasonal run of form, as mild temperatures have stirred the fish in many of our lakes, rivers and canals into feeding. Match weights soared to over 100lb at many venues, as carp, F1s and skimmers went on the hunt for bait. Pole Fishing Editor, Jon Arthur was one angler lucky enough to find himself on fish in the Tunnel Barn Farm Teams Of Four Winter League, and made the most of a good draw by winning with a 131lb net of F1s!He commented: “Our Match Fishing Drawbags team really lived up to its name this week – I pulled us out four fliers! I was over the moon with peg 31 on House Pool, and fortunately there was a big ball of F1s in front of me. I caught most of my fish on maggots shallow, though I also dobbed a few fish.

Anging Trust hit back at critics. The Angling Trust has hit back at critics, who slammed the £1. 8m funding package secured for angling from Sport England. The amount of funding each sport received was announced on Monday, with angling ranking 35th out of the 46 sports awarded funding, despite being among the country’s largest participation sports.

Report gives breakdown of event costs. The Angling Trust (AT) has today released its annual competitions accounts. The report – which was released as a result of pressure from anglers on DHP’s Angling Answers website forum – reveals how much money is taken out of competitions to cover the Trust's wage bill, and other 'direct costs'. The report gives a breakdown of the costs incurred for the running of the Fish ‘O’ Mania, Division Two National, Schools National, Ladies National, Veterans National, Disabled National, Cadet National and RiverFest events.

Annual random pairs match in memory of Jenny Hamlington and departed friends of Tunnel Barn Farm. Jenny and Mike Hamlington built the fishery together, over the years, from a small pond which became the Bottom Pool. The venue has continued to grow and flourish into the super-popular complex of today. The memorial match will be held on Tuesday, July 8th and the cost is £10 per person with an additional, optional £10 super pool for those who wish to enter it.

Generous incentives for anglers at Midlands water. Tunnel Barn Farm has announced two new incentives aimed at getting more anglers on the bank. The first is aimed at club anglers, and will see clubs that book four matches receive a fifth one for free. Big-money match at Midlands commercial. Warwickshire super-water Tunnel Barn Farm has announced a big-money match that is to run on October 12th. Northern and Southern venues set. Two of the four Angling Trust Winter League Semi Final venues have been confirmed. The Loughborough Canal will host a northern semi final – along with an unconfirmed commercial. Gold Valley Lakes will host the southern commercial round, but organisers are still on the hunt for a natural venue in the bottom half of the country.

UK Championships has new Sponsors The long-running and highly successful UK Angling Championship has a new sponsor. Cresta Match / Gamakatsu have recently been announced as the new sponsors in a deal which secures the future and TV coverage of one of the UK’s most credible and highest profile competitions. The UK Champs has been running since 1984 and has been won by some of the biggest names in history. One of the UK’s most prestigious match fishing events, the UK Angling Championship is seeking a new flagship sponsor, to ensure that the event is televised once again.
