Feeder World Champion Steve Ringer has won more matches than he can remember with bream, so who better to learn from than the master himself? It is no secret that fishing for bream is my all-time favourite style of fishing. I just love setting a trap of bait and then working out how best to catch these big ‘aquatic sheep’. Venues such as Ferry Meadows, where I am today, are very much my passion and hopefully I will be able to pass on some sound advice to help you get among more slabs. Ferry is one of the few remaining traditional bream waters, as far as I am concerned, and the way the matches are run here – Method feeders and boilies are banned – mean that traditional tactics are also required.
207lb net sees Chertsy rod in Fisho FinalPerry Stone has booked his place in the Fish ‘O’ Mania grand final, after weighing in a massive 207lb of carp in the Monks Lake qualifier. Following the draw, Perry was said to be quite happy with his Peg B5 on Bridges Pool, and attacked it with a Method-feeder approach, and pellet hook bait casting 80 yards to the edge of an island. This will be Perry’s third appearance in the final having fished it twice at Hayfield. Early morning rain soon cleared to leave a bight windy day for the 130 anglers, who were pegged over the four match lakes, plus the Specimen Lake, Bridges Pool.
No tickets left for prestigious match. This year's Match Fishing and Pole Fishing Subscriber Classic, held at Barston Lakes and Packington Somers fisheries, has sold out in record time. Match Fishing editor Alex Bones commented: “It is great news that the event has sold out in record time, and a fitting tribute to just how popular it has become. The team and I always look forward to meeting and greeting our readers and, if last year's event is anything to go by, a good day will be had by all who attend.
Rush of coldwater slows World Championship sport. As the all out approaches on day one of the World Championship, the fishing is reported to have become very tough for anglers in E section, as a rush of cold water moving through the canal has lead to the fish switching off. Although it is making the fishing difficult, it is good news for England's Sean Ashby who is comfortably leading the section. In D section, Alan is still in control, some 20 fish ahead of the rest of the anglers in his section.

The Barston record has fallen once again and yet again it is Suzi Smith who has done it! Recording a colossal 194lb, which beat her previous record by almost 30lb, the catch was taken on paste fished in the margins of Peg 30.
Venue owner Nigel Harrhy had this to say on the catch: “Suzi is extremely difficult to beat at Barston and it's no surprise that she keeps breaking the venue record! How she fishes is a bit of a mystery to all who fish here, but it doesn’t matter if it is winter or summer, she does the damage!
“It is also pleasing to see the lake producing great weights such as this. We had a tough time several years ago when the lake was really starting to reach its peak. Sadly we caught the dreaded KHV and that really hampered our progress.

Daiwa Dorking and Kamasan Starlets have secured their places in the Angling Trust Winter League Final in emphatic style- by winning their respective Semi Finals. Saturday’s match took place at Gold Valley Lakes in Surrey, and Daiwa Dorking proved their undoubted international class by winning the event –with only two of their anglers finishing any lower than second in section. Team regular, and former World Youth Champion, Callum Dicks explained: “Gold is obviously a venue where our anglers are very experienced, so we were able to keep our plan fairly simple.
Jon Arthur is no stranger to big events, so we got him to pick seven of the best and explain what it takes to fish them.
I have had a few people messaging me recently about ‘taking the next step’ and getting into the big-match circuit. I think that’s great as, for me, half the fun of match fishing is constantly learning about new methods and venues, trying to up your game and better yourself.
It’s easy to get stuck in a rut fishing the same venues week in, week out.
