Bolies Reign Supreme as Garbolino Dominate BarstonRound 2 of the Preston Innovations backed UK Angling Championships saw a last minute change of venue from Colemans Cottage to the coliseum of competition angling, Bartson Lakes. Host venue of the British Carp Angling Championships the weekend before the UKLAC, Barston saw large quantities of boilies fed in the water and the carp loved it. A tactical team discussion from Darren Cox saw a number of the Garbolino boys hit the lake on the feeder with bright boilies on the hook, loose feeding boilies over the top individually and continually through the match. It paid off and as the scores were checked the Garbolino anglers recorded 4 section wins, with Simon Fry taking overall honours for the whole match with 99lbs 4oz and Harry Billing third overall with 91.

Round four of the Harrison Fossdyke League. With a thin layer of ice covering the surface of much of the canal, anglers were expecting conditions to be tough, on what turned out to be a bright, clear day. The match was split between the Odder and Woodcock lengths, and coming out on top with a weight of 6-6-0 from peg 39 at Odder was Dynamite Trentmen rod Rob Perkins. Rob backed up some chunky perch on lobworm, with a net of quality roach taken on bloodworm over groundbait at six metres.

Great start to the Fossdyke league with plenty of roach and big perch showing. Harrisons Tackle Fossdyke league39 FishedWith the previously unfished Woodcocks length being pegged alongside the more commonly used section at Odder, nobody was sure what to expect for the first round of this popular series. As it turned out fish showed up right along the match length in what turned out to be one of the best matches the Fossdyke has seen in recent years. The winner on the day was Maver Bait Tech rod Chris Jenkinson.

This three-day annual event goes from strength-to-strength thanks to the excellent organisation of Glyn Sherwood and his team, and it was fitting that Glyn achieved his best result so far. Day 1 – Redhill Fishery MonmouthCompetitors were greeted with heavy drizzle on the first day at Redhill, Monmouth where the 33 anglers were spread over Molly’s and Sophie’s. The fishing was surprisingly below par considering recent results at the venue, but give young Sam Prosser a half decent peg and everyone else is in catch up mode. Sam didn’t disappoint turning on a great display of paste and pellet fishing for a clear win overall from Molly’s peg 20 in section D, beating venue specialist Tony Summers into second place on the next peg.
