Mick Owen has won the latest round of the Lindholme Natural Baits League, with an impressive 26-12-0 net of F1s, on what turned out to be a very tough day for competitors due to horrendous mid-week weather. Local lad wins AT Disabled National. Various circumstances saw just 19 anglers compete for the title of the Angling Trust National Champion at the scenic Blake Hall Fishery near Cheadle in Staffordshire. The pool, whilst not renowned for really big weights, has developed a fair reputation for delivering close matches where 50-60lb of fish can turn up almost anywhere. However, poor weather leading up to Saturday's match meant that the fishing was extremely hard.

Gold Valley waives peg fees for open match anglers. Gold Valley Lakes in Hampshire has introduced a new policy for its Saturday open matches, meaning that the peg fee will be waived until further notice. The idea is the brainchild of venue owners, and father and son duo, John and Will Raison, who are keen to pay anglers back for their support through the winter. England international and former World Champion Will explained: “My father and I are extremely lucky as we have a core of match anglers who support us right through the year, and so giving them free fishing for a few weeks in the spring is the least we can do.

Maver ace gets silver surpriseMaver's Ben Hughes enjoyed a session to remember on a recent trip to Stourports Larford Lakes, after banking a 2lb 8oz roach!Ben explained: "I caught the fish on the bomb using a hair-rigged banded 8mm pellet fished at about 25 yards. I was targeting the resident carp and bream at the time, after being reliably informed by Andy Kinder that fishing an 8mm pellet whilst feeding 8mms over the top was the way to go. I had drawn permanent Peg 25 (about mid-way down the Speci burr). During this stage in the match I had already taken carp into double-figures and bream to 5lb, but a big roach was the last thing I expected! When I first connected with the fish, I initially thought it was another bream, but then it started to fight back and I thought it might be a small ‘stocky’.

Big match victory for feeder team captain. England feeder team ace Tommy Pickering has proved just why he is regarded as one of the country’s best feeder anglers – after bagging a winning net in this weekends round of the Hayfield Pairs Series. The sixty peg event is contested by some of the north’s finest angling talents – including Alan Scotthorne, James Dent and current World Champion, Sean Ashby. The match win comes on the back of a string of good results at the venue – and Tommy puts them all down to the banjo feeder! He explained: “The banjo is perhaps a little underused by a lot of anglers –who prefer more conventional methods such as the Method feeder – but there are definitely times when the water is cold as it is at the moment when it is very difficult to beat.
